I was nervous at first to get this product as I am a non-techy person. I had tried others but just couldn’t make it work. However, this product was very easy to install and hook up a VCR to a PC. I am happy with the quality of DVD and how I was able to create a custom menu or look. I also like the one click upload to YouTube feature without going to the web itself. I recommend this product to non-techy users who don’t like to read user guide or learn a new software.

It also supports analog music so can knock out two birds with one stone.

Anyone who has recorded to VHS in the past must upgrade to a DVD recorder. Unless they pay a monthly DVR rental fee to Tivo or their cable provider they won’t get the DVD recorder capability. Those companies don’t want you to archive any television show for later viewing. You are limited to the capacity of the hard drives within the DVR.

But if you have a DVD recorder like I do, you can do the same thing as you did with your VCR or, probably with a little more effort, the same as your DVR. A DVD recorder can also do the same thing as this software without the need of a computer. Simply use the RCA cable to connect the output of your VHS recorder to the input of your DVD recorder. My DVD recorders, a Panasonic and a Toshiba, both can take DVD-RW or DVD-RAM discs. Both discs can be edited. I must play the VHS in real time to make the transfer. I don’t know if this software speeds up that process. What I have done with all my VHS tapes and home-made VHS recordings is set the DVD to record mode, the VHS tape to play, then walk away. When all is done I can edit the DVD on the DVD recorder or if I used a DVD-RW disc, I can edit it on my computer. I don’t have a DVD-RAM drive for my computer. So I think the Gold Box deal today for this software at $[...] (regular price now $[...]) may have been a deal you can invest a bit more but pay less than $200 and get both a DVD recorder and a player that can do the same thing plus play movies on your TV.
